Tuesday of the 1st Week of the Year

Mk 1:21-28

The Cure of a Demoniac

What kind of knowledge do we have about Jesus Christ? Let us be aware that in the gospel even the devil acknowledged the authority of Jesus our Lord. The devil said: “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” (v. 24)

But we know that this acknowledgement of the devil is not out of faith but out of fear. The devil knew that Jesus has the power to cast him out. The devil acknowledged Jesus not because he wanted to follow the Lord. In other words, acknowledging and knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior does not guarantee us that we are His true disciples.

So my dear friends, let us pray to God, that our knowledge and acknowledgment of Jesus may bring us to true faith and trust always in His love and care for us.

And there are the two reasons why people got astonished with Jesus. He spoke the truth with authority and he practiced it with love. Truth and love, when they go together, have infinite power. Truth and love, when they go together, can liberate so many people. But the first to be liberated, when truth and love go together, is ourselves.
